After disappearing from showrooms over 20 years ago, the Tata Sierra is back. Launching on November 25, 2025, this reborn SUV mixes old-school cool with today’s tech. Buyers can pick between regular petrol and diesel engines or go full electric. Here’s what’s coming.

Tata Motors will launch the Sierra on November 25, 2025, with the petrol and diesel variants arriving first. The electric version is expected to follow in December 2025 or early 2026. Pricing is likely to start around ₹11 lakh for base petrol variants and go up to ₹25 lakh for fully loaded diesel models. The Tata Sierra EV could be priced between ₹18 lakh and ₹28 lakh, making it competitive with other electric SUVs in the market. Design and Exterior
The 2025 Sierra stands out with its boxy, retro-inspired design that pays tribute to the original model from the 1990s. The front features an all-black grille with Tata Sierra branding, LED daytime running lights, and a light bar stretching across the fascia. Silver skid plates add a rugged touch while flush door handles keep things modern. The tall, square silhouette that made the original Tata Sierra famous is back, but Tata has updated it with contemporary elements like connected LED tail lights, glossy black trim pieces, and large machined alloy wheels.
There are six color options available: Andaman Adventure (Yellow), Bengal Rouge (Red), Coorg Clouds (Silver), Munnar Mist (Green), Mintal Grey, and White. The vibrant yellow shade has generated the most buzz in recent previews and is expected to be a popular choice among younger buyers.
Interior and Features
Open the door and the triple-screen dashboard immediately catches your eye. Three displays span the entire dashboard—one for driver instrumentation, a central infotainment screen, and a passenger display. This marks a significant upgrade for Tata vehicles and puts the Sierra in line with premium offerings from global brands. The four-spoke steering wheel features an illuminated Tata logo, while touch-based controls handle the air conditioning functions.
The cabin also gets dual-zone climate control, two-tone upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree parking camera. Tata has chosen a five-seater layout instead of cramming in a third row, which means more legroom and cargo space for passengers. The fit and finish appear premium, with attention paid to materials and build quality.
Technology features include wireless phone charging, ventilated and powered front seats, a JBL sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear window sunshades, and multiple drive modes. The overall cabin design emphasizes space and comfort rather than trying to maximize seating capacity.
Tata Sierra Engine and Performance
Tata is offering multiple powertrain options to cater to different buyer preferences. The petrol lineup includes a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine for entry-level variants and a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol direct injection unit that will also power the upcoming Harrier and Safari models. The diesel option is a 2.0-liter engine producing 168 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be available across the lineup, giving buyers flexibility based on their driving style and usage patterns.
EV Specifications
The Sierra EV will arrive shortly after the petrol and diesel variants. Built on Tata’s Gen 2 Acti.ev platform—the same architecture that underpins the Curvv EV and Harrier EV—it promises a driving range of up to 500 km on a full charge. Tata will offer two battery pack options to suit different budget and range requirements. The electric version will come in both single-motor and dual-motor configurations, with the dual-motor setup providing all-wheel drive capability.
Design changes for the EV include a blanked-off grille, aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels, and specific EV badging. Fast charging capability means you won’t spend hours waiting for the battery to recharge. The Sierra EV will compete directly with the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE6, and MG ZS EV in the growing electric SUV segment.
Safety Features
Safety equipment is comprehensive and includes seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, and tire pressure monitoring. The Sierra also gets Level 2 ADAS, which brings features typically found in more expensive SUVs. This includes adaptive cruise control that maintains a set distance from the vehicle ahead, lane-keep assist that helps you stay centered in your lane, blind spot monitoring to alert you of vehicles in your blind spots, and automatic emergency braking that can intervene to prevent or reduce the severity of collisions.
Tata Sierra Competitors
The Sierra enters one of the most competitive segments in India, where it will face established players like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and Maruti Grand Vitara. It will also compete with the Mahindra Scorpio N and even Tata’s own Curvv. Each of these rivals has carved out its own niche, with the Creta dominating sales numbers, the Seltos offering features and style, and the German twins emphasizing driving dynamics.
